Diamonds are Highest Imports of the USA from India
The dreadful Covid-19 virus has left deep impact on the US economy. As the country is going through various waves of the pandemic, it had an impactful experience.
As per USA Import Data, the import of pharmaceuticals was
higher followed by imports of polished diamonds. The data shows that USA is the
net importer of polished diamonds.
The United States of America has no operational mines within
the country for diamonds but it has manufacturing setup to produce diamonds for
consumer consumption. So USA is also known as the country with high imports for
rough diamonds.
India Import Data shows that India is the top source for
diamonds in the United States of America, followed by Israel. The growing
US-India’s bilateral trade relationship is a positive sign for trade businesses
in both the countries.
The bilateral relations between countries grew during the
pandemic when high imports of pharmaceuticals were sent to USA by India for
helping the country face the heat of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
Importglobals shows that the country is the leading importer
of not only the pharmaceuticals but also diamonds, thus paving way for good
business opportunities between both the countries. For the year 2020, the top
imported commodity in USA was pharmaceuticals followed by diamonds.
However, USA Custom Data shows that there was a flip of
dynamics of USA exports in the year 2021 with diamond being the highest imported
commodity from India. The highest import value of diamonds recorded before the
worldwide second wave of the pandemic that was in the month of May.
In April 2021, USA imported $ 917.4 billion worth of
diamonds from India, which is the highest value among all the months and before
the second wave of Corona virus pandemic. The month of June recorded a slight
increase in the imports of diamonds from India, with an import value of $779.8
million.
US polished diamonds imports strikingly leaped 93% year on
year to $1.59 billion in June this year. The volumes of shipments rose
significantly during 2021 but the average price for the year to date fell 15%
to $ 1,734 per carat.
