India Import Data shows that India is the top source for diamonds in the United States of America, followed by Israel. The growing US-India’s bilateral trade relationship is a positive sign for trade businesses in both the countries.

The bilateral relations between countries grew during the pandemic when high imports of pharmaceuticals were sent to USA by India for helping the country face the heat of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

However, USA Custom Data shows that there was a flip of dynamics of USA exports in the year 2021 with diamond being the highest imported commodity from India. The highest import value of diamonds recorded before the worldwide second wave of the pandemic that was in the month of May.

In April 2021, USA imported $ 917.4 billion worth of diamonds from India, which is the highest value among all the months and before the second wave of Corona virus pandemic. The month of June recorded a slight increase in the imports of diamonds from India, with an import value of $779.8 million.

US polished diamonds imports strikingly leaped 93% year on year to $1.59 billion in June this year. The volumes of shipments rose significantly during 2021 but the average price for the year to date fell 15% to $ 1,734 per carat.
